Employee Volunteering
We are delighted to support our employees' interest in engaging
with their communities through the gift of their time and talents.
We know their efforts make a difference. To this end, we have
several programs in place to support their work:
- We support our employees' individual
efforts to volunteer for causes that are meaningful to them by
matching both their financial contributions as well as their
volunteer time. If you represent a non-profit organization
that uses SanDisk employee volunteers, talk to them about
leveraging their volunteer time and donor dollars.
- Through our Signature Partnerships,
SanDisk employees volunteer individually and mobilize in teams to
support of charitable causes that are especially important to
SanDisk.
- A variety of SanDisk teams engage in
team-based volunteering activities that help drive the success of
specific events and build a long-term relationship with non-profit
organizations.
- Disaster relief and humanitarian aid
programs provide immediate help in a time of crisis. SanDisk
employee expertise and financial resources, combined with corporate
financial and product donations, have focused powerful forces in
the aftermath of the tsunami in Southeast Asia, Hurricane Katrina,
the China earthquake, and most recently, the earthquake in Haiti
and the earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan.
Here are a few of the many and varied volunteer endeavors of
SanDisk and our dedicated employees:
United States
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: SanDisk and its employees
have for many years supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's
"Light the Night" fundraising initiative. Our employees participate
in the fundraising walk, while the company matches employee
donations and creates on-site programs to stimulate employee
awareness, interest and support. The society is the world's largest
voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer
research, education and patient services.
Annual Second Harvest Drive: SanDisk sponsors
the Second Harvest Food Bank's yearly efforts to provide meals to
families in need through direct funding, by encouraging employees
to donate food, and by supporting employees volunteer efforts to
help pack and load food for distribution. SanDisk and SanDisk
employees have provided more than 18,000 pounds of food and $1.6
million that have served 3.3 million meals to needy local families
through our annual On-Site Sort and Share Your Lunch onsite
campaigns.
Blood Drives: SanDisk organizes on-site blood
drives at least three times each year at its Silicon Valley
headquarters and other worldwide sites to increase emergency backup
blood supplies and to build awareness of blood shortages.
China
"Better life, Better Community": Reflecting the theme of
the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, SanDisk China employees joined hands
with two neighboring companies to plant 20 trees in ZiZhu Industry
Park
"We Donate, We Buy": SanDisk Shanghai employees
donated household items to raise funds for a Shanghai community
tree-planting project. Nearly 350 items were collected from
employees, and the vast majority of donated goods have found new
owners. We've hosted similar events at SanDisk Taiwan, which raised
needed funds for the Taiwan Foundation of Children and
Families.
"We Love, We Give" Program: More than 600
SanDisk employees teamed up for a week-long program that generated
funding for books, stationery and toys to support disadvantaged
children's educational opportunities in the local community. The
funds, along with purchased or donated items, were then distributed
by SanDisk employee volunteers to the children on behalf of the
organization.
Israel
"Tu Bishvat" tree planting in Israel: SanDisk Israel
employees commemorate "Tu Bishvat" -- a Jewish holiday celebrating
the planting of new trees -- by planting trees with volunteers from
the community.
Amcha Center: The SanDisk Omer team celebrated
with Holocaust survivors at the Amcha Center in Beer-Sheva, and
hosted a Chess tournament between Omer employees and Amcha Center
members. Kfar Saba employees packed holiday food baskets and Omer
employees distributed baskets to Amcha Center Holocaust survivors'
homes.
Passover Families in Need Drive: Employees
gathered and donated 40 boxes of toys, equipment and clothing
designated for needy families in a local community.
