FlashSoft Software employs advanced algorithms to identify applications’ most active data, to execute storage input and output operations (I/O) in server-based flash storage, to maximize application performance and storage system efficiency. By managing active data placement within the server, FlashSoft software provides the performance benefits of flash storage as close to server compute operations as possible. Because the software’s operational parameters are configurable, the identification and management of the active data can be precisely tuned to the specific application workload, solid-state device and storage infrastructure.
In many environments, it is economically or logistically impractical to use flash as primary storage, either within the server or in a storage system. Flash Virtualization® is the ability to integrate a small amount of flash memory in the server to satisfy I/O operations for the applications’ most frequently accessed data, delivering performance improvement comparable to that of a much larger amount of flash-based storage.
Flash storage can significantly reduce I/O latency. However, the impact on application performance depends greatly on where the I/O latency is addressed. Flash can improve the overall performance of a storage array. However, flash in a storage system does not address the network latency that exists between servers and storage. Application performance is most effectively increased when the low latency flash storage device is as close as possible to the compute resources in the server.
The cost-effective way to increase storage efficiency and application performance is to enable a solid-state storage in the server. Moving hot data I/O to the server tier can greatly reduce I/O between the server and the storage infrastructure, increasing the performance, availability and efficiency of existing storage systems. Overhead on storage systems can be substantially reduced when FlashSoft directs I/O activity to solid-state storage within the server.
A key requirement for enterprise storage is that the server-resident flash storage be seamlessly integrated with the existing storage infrastructure. FlashSoft software provides the benefits of flash in the server without requiring any changes to underlying storage.
