The ULLtraDIMM™ SSD connects flash storage to the memory channel via standard DIMM slots, in order to close the gap between storage devices and system memory. It can achieve less than five microseconds write latency at the DIMM level, enabling a new generation of software requiring ultra-low latency. ULLtraDIMM SSDs use SanDisk’s proprietary Guardian Technology™ Platform to meet the endurance needs of write-intensive and mixed-use application workloads.
The ULLtraDIMM SSDsupports analytics workloads, which leverage large data-sets and work with databases and data warehouses. The ULLtraDIMM SSD’s processing speed supports faster time-to-results for business managers.
The ULLtraDIMM SSD supports hundreds of individual end-user “sessions” running on the server, instead of on local PCs; and it avoids “boot-storms” that often slow VDI response times when large numbers of end-users start up their VDI applications.
Does the ULLtraDIMM SSD fit into a disk enclosure?No. The ULLtraDIMM SSD fits into any existing DDR3 memory slot inside an industry standard server or blade.
What happens to the data on the SSD if the power is turned off?Unlike DDR3 memory, the ULLtraDIMM SSD retains the data just as a HDD would.
Does the pre-existing server or blade DDR3 memory need to be removed in order to user the ULLtraDIMM SSD?No. The ULLtraDIMM SSD is fully interoperable with RDIMMs, enabling it to be deployed in any server or blade.
Is the ULLtraDIMM SSD reliable?The ULLtraDIMM SSD is extremely reliable with a BER reliability rate of one unrecoverable error in 1017 bits read, which meets the requirements specified by the JEDEC JESD218 standard, which calls out for a minimal UBER of one in 1016 bits read for Enterprise‐class SSDs. Also the ULLtraDIMM SSD uses the DataGuard™ Technology (a component of SanDisk’s proprietary Guardian Technology™Platform), which features full data path protection, safeguarding user data from corruption along all data paths in the ULLtraDIMM SSD.
Do ULLtraDIMM SSDs really increase the performance of servers?Yes. The ULLtraDIMM SSD provides less than 5 microseconds write latency and 150 microseconds read latency whereas HDDs typically exhibit latencies in the 4 millisecond range and higher. This SSD closes the performance gap between storage devices and system memory.
How many ULLtraDIMM SSDs can be deployed in a server or blade?The number of ULLtraDIMM SSDs that can be deployed in a server or blade depends on the number of available DDR3 memory slots. Each ULLtraDIMM SSD scales linearly.

What type of endurance does the ULLtraDIMM SSD have?The ULLtraDIMM SSD uses FlashGuard™ Technology (a component of SanDisk’s proprietary Guardian Technology™ Platform) which employs both Aggregated Flash Management to treat all flash elements as a single system, and Advanced Signal Processing to dynamically adjusts flash parameters throughout the life of the SSD, to reliably extract significantly more life from MLC flash, making it suitable for write-intensive and mixed-use application workloads.
Can data that is being processed be lost if an unexpected power outage occurs?No. The ULLtraDIMM SSD uses EverGuard™ Technology (a component of SanDisk’s proprietary Guardian Technology™ Platform) to protect against loss of user data in the event of unexpected power interruptions. EverGuard Technology features a 3rd generation backup power circuit design and high-reliability discrete capacitors to ensure data preservation.
